It’s always a great day in Columbus when Ohio State beats out Michigan to secure a recruit.
Securing a recruit over teams like Michigan, Oregon, and Wisconsin is a significant victory for Ryan Day and his coaching team.
That’s exactly what happened with Maxwell Roy, a highly-regarded defensive lineman from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. According to 247Sports, Roy, ranked as the No. 19 defensive lineman in the 2025 class, chose Ohio State despite interest from top-tier programs like Oregon and Wisconsin, as well as Duke and Rutgers.
Roy cited a strong connection with Ohio State from the beginning, largely due to the school’s established relationship with his high school, St. Joseph’s Prep. He also believed Ohio State offered the best environment for his development, especially in pursuit of championships—a point that’s hard to dispute.
Roy’s commitment further strengthens Ohio State’s top-ranked 2025 recruiting class. He becomes the 22nd commitment under Day, joining three other five-star recruits and twelve four-star prospects.
