Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Caleb Wiley, a 19-year-old American full-back talent from MLS side Atlanta United. According to The Athletic, Chelsea have identified Wiley as a potential target as they search for a left-back ahead of the summer transfer window.
Wiley, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, started his youth career with DDYSC Wolves before joining Atlanta United at the age of 11 in 2016. He has made significant strides at the club, progressing through the youth ranks and breaking into the first-team during the 2022 season. This season, he has been a regular starter, featuring 20 times and contributing one goal along with two assists.
His performances have caught the eye of several top European clubs, including Chelsea. The Blues are looking to bolster their left-back position following the departure of Ian Maatsen and amid uncertainty surrounding Marc Cucurella’s future at Stamford Bridge, who is linked with Manchester United.
Chelsea’s interest in Wiley is motivated by his potential and the opportunity to develop under Ben Chilwell’s guidance. Chilwell’s occasional fitness issues could also provide Wiley with immediate chances to prove himself in the first team. However, discussions regarding a potential transfer are still in early stages, and it remains to be seen how Chelsea’s pursuit of the Atlanta United prospect will unfold in the coming weeks.
