Despite initially struggling to make an impact at Ipswich after signing under Paul Cook in summer 2022, Ahadme found success during loan spells at Burton Albion and Cambridge United in League One.

He began his career at Norwich City’s academy, where he impressed by scoring six goals in 14 Premier League 2 matches during the 2019/20 season. Following this, he was loaned out to Real Oviedo in Spain and Portsmouth.

In January 2022, Ahadme moved to Burton Albion, where he scored eight goals across all competitions before returning to Ipswich after just seven months. However, he only made six substitute appearances during his return to East Anglia. He returned to Burton Albion on loan in January 2023, scoring a crucial winning goal against Lincoln City in his last game for the club.

Last season, Ahadme finally secured a regular starting position

He and Cambridge started the season strongly, with the forward scoring in consecutive 2-0 victories over Oxford United and Fleetwood Town. However, he then went through a dry spell, failing to score in the next 16 games. He later hit a purple patch, scoring five goals in as many games between November and December, despite changes in the coaching staff.

Despite suffering a foot injury early in the new year, the 23-year-old managed to feature in all of Cambridge’s final nine league matches, adding three more goals to bring his total for the season to 11 in the league.

Like all of Charlton’s signings this transfer window, Ahadme’s arrival is seen as a clever piece of business and helps mitigate the loss of their top scorer, Alfie May, to Birmingham City.

Manager Jones has strengthened his team significantly during this window, bringing in quality players such as Will Mannion and Luke Berry from Cambridge, along with defenders Alex Mitchell and Josh Edwards.

Ahadme will now team up with the experienced Matty Godden, whose move from Coventry City was recently confirmed. Their partnership promises to be an exciting prospect for Charlton in the upcoming 2024/25 season.

Godden played a crucial role in Coventry City’s promotion from League One in 2020, scoring 14 goals in 26 games before the season was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These signings highlight Charlton’s ambitious intentions for the upcoming season.
