The Miami Heat have agreed to a one-year deal with former first-round pick Alec Burks, according to an ESPN report on Wednesday. While the financial details were not disclosed, this move marks the Heat as the eighth team Burks will join in his career.
Last season, Burks played as a bench player for the Detroit Pistons and the New York Knicks, who traded for him in February. During the regular season, he averaged 10.4 points per game. In the playoffs, Burks improved his performance, averaging 14.8 points and 20.2 minutes per game over six games with the Knicks.
Over his 13-season career, Burks has played 742 games, starting in 144 of them. He was originally drafted by the Utah Jazz with the 12th overall pick in the 2011 draft and spent eight seasons with the team. Throughout his career, Burks has averaged 10.8 points per game and is known for his shooting ability, boasting a career 38.3 percent success rate from the 3-point line.
Burks’ addition to the Heat is expected to bring veteran experience and scoring capability, particularly from beyond the arc, as the team continues to build a competitive roster for the upcoming season.
