It’s an exciting period for Michigan State basketball players in the NBA. Initially, Max Christie’s unexpected signing with the Los Angeles Lakers caught my attention.

Now, we’ve learned that two other former Spartans have secured contract extensions to remain with their respective NBA teams.

Xavier Tillman Sr To Boston Celtics

Xavier Tillman Sr. has made a significant impact in the NBA, culminating in his first championship win with the Boston Celtics. After three successful seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, Tillman’s move to Boston during his fourth season was a highlight for him.

His contributions off the bench were notable, averaging four points, 2.7 rebounds, and one assist per game throughout the season. Particularly memorable was his standout performance in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, where his efforts helped secure a crucial victory for the Celtics in Dallas, putting them up 3-0 in the series.

With his new contract extension, Tillman will continue to play for the Celtics for the next two years. This opportunity promises more chances for him to add to his accomplishments, as the Celtics remain a strong contender in the NBA.

Gary Harris to Orlando Magic

Gary Harris, the second Spartan to ink a fresh agreement, will continue his tenure with the Orlando Magic for an additional two seasons.

Harris has had a lengthy NBA career spanning 10 seasons and involving three different teams. He has most recently played for Orlando over the past three and a half years.

During the previous season, Harris posted averages of 6.9 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game, figures slightly below his career norms. Despite this, the Magic evidently value his veteran presence enough to retain him.

His new contract will see him earning $14 million over the next two years.

Looking ahead, there’s hope that Harris will make a more significant impact for the Magic, who have not finished higher than fifth in the Eastern Conference during his time with the team. However, they achieved this fifth-place finish in the most recent season, offering optimism for their future prospects with Harris on board.
