The Milwaukee Brewers traded for right-hander Aaron Civale from the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, adding an experienced pitcher to their roster as they prepare for the second half of the season.
In return, the Rays received minor-league infielder Gregory Barrios.
Civale, who was acquired by the Rays last year at the trade deadline from the Cleveland Guardians, has started 17 games this season, compiling a 2-6 record with a 5.07 ERA. He signed a one-year, $4.9 million contract in January and is under team control until the 2026 season.
Throughout his career with the Guardians and Rays, Civale has started 103 games, posting a 33-32 record with a 4.10 ERA.
Barrios, a 20-year-old infielder, has shown promise at High-A Wisconsin, batting .325 with one home run, 34 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases in 61 games.
In corresponding moves, Milwaukee designated right-hander Taylor Clarke for assignment. Clarke, 31, has appeared in 10 games (eight starts) this season for Triple-A Nashville, recording a 1-1 record with a 5.34 ERA. He has a career record of 15-15 with a 5.03 ERA in 183 games (22 starts) with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2019-21) and Kansas City Royals (2022-23).
The Brewers, who currently lead the National League Central by six games, were set to play the Colorado Rockies on the road on Wednesday.
