The Cleveland Guardians made several roster changes on Thursday, activating right-hander Nick Sandlin from the injured list and recalling rookie shortstop Angel Martinez from Triple-A Columbus. The team sent right-hander Eli Morgan and shortstop Jose Tena down to Columbus.
Sandlin, 27, has been out since June 16 due to lower back inflammation. In his fourth season with Cleveland, he holds a 5-0 record with a 3.49 ERA in 33 relief appearances.
Martinez, 22, returns after his major league debut on June 22, where he went 2-for-7 in two games before being sent back down. Morgan, 28, has been effective in the bullpen with a 1-0 record and a 1.98 ERA in 12 relief outings this season, his fourth with Cleveland.
Tena, 23, played in three games without a hit in four at-bats. He has 21 games of major league experience from last season, batting .226 with 7 hits in 31 at-bats. The Guardians started Thursday with the third-best record in the majors at 53-31, trailing only the Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies.
