Occasionally, NBA players take a gamble on themselves, which doesn’t always yield positive results. This can happen when they don’t perform to their full potential or there isn’t much demand for their skills.
A notable example might be Caleb Martin. Heat insider Barry Jackson recently reported that the seasoned forward is having difficulties in the open market, according to NBA Central.
Caleb Martin reportedly declined an extension from the Heat earlier in the offseason and was said to be seeking $15 million annually, per @flasportsbuzz
Miami is no longer able to offer that contract, and Martin has yet to find an offer similar to Miami's previous offer.

Apparently, Caleb Martin turned down a contract extension from the Heat earlier in the offseason, aiming for a salary of around $15 million per year. Now, the Heat can’t offer him the same deal, and Martin hasn’t found any team willing to match what he could have gotten from Miami.
Martin is a reliable rotational player and an efficient three-point shooter. He also holds his own defensively and had some standout scoring games last season. However, the Heat are known for developing players perfectly suited to their system, who often decline after leaving South Beach. This might make other teams hesitant to sign former Heat players.
Despite this, Erik Spoelstra and the Heat would still welcome Martin, as he has been a valuable contributor. Unfortunately for Martin, it seems he may have missed out on a significant contract and will have to settle for a lesser deal no matter where he plays next season.
