Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart were shocked by the Knicks’ trade for Mikal Bridges, which now makes four former Villanova players on the team. Teaming up with Bridges was something they had joked about but never expected to actually happen.
“I never thought it would happen because when was the last time the Nets had done a trade with the Knicks?” Brunson said on The Roommates Show. “Whenever we talked about it, it was like, ‘Oh, these guys are recruiting.’ I always thought, well, that’s never going to come to fruition.”
Hart added, “You never really think it’s possible, but it was all in good fun with Mikal because he’s my guy. And Nets fans were just saying stuff, so it was a bit of teasing the Nets.”

Brunson, Hart, and Bridges, along with fellow Knick Donte DiVincenzo, had previously won the NCAA National Championship together in 2016, and except for Hart, they won another title in 2018. The surreal experience of all of them ending up on the same NBA team is beyond belief even for them.
To acquire Bridges, the Knicks traded Bojan Bogdanovic, Mamadi Diakite, Shake Milton, four unprotected first-round picks, an unprotected pick swap, a top-four protected first-round pick, and an unprotected second-round pick.
