The Atlanta Braves have taken the first step in their “Recreate 2021 Plan” by making several roster moves. On Monday, they announced the promotion of outfielder Eddie Rosario to the major league roster. Additionally, right-handed pitcher Bryce Elder was recalled in a significant roster shake-up that included the optioning of outfielder Luke Williams and left-handed pitcher Dylan Lee to Triple-A. Outfielder J.P. Martinez was designated for assignment.
Rosario, who signed a minor league deal with the Braves last week, is returning for his second stint with the team. The 32-year-old originally joined the Braves during the 2021 season after Ronald Acuña Jr.’s season-ending ACL injury. Rosario, along with cash considerations, was acquired from Cleveland in exchange for Pablo Sandoval as part of the Braves’ outfield restructuring for their postseason push.
During that impactful run, the Braves also added Adam Duvall, Joc Pederson, and Jorge Soler, culminating in their championship victory. Now reunited with Duvall in Atlanta, Rosario aims to rejuvenate his form after a challenging season with the Washington Nationals, where he struggled with a .183/.226/.329 slash line and 7 home runs in 2024.
Despite his recent struggles, Rosario’s career highlights include a standout performance in the 2021 NLCS, where he earned MVP honors with a .560 batting average, 3 home runs, and a 1.647 OPS against the Los Angeles Dodgers. With the Braves seeking stability in their outfield following Acuña’s injury, Rosario’s return presents an opportunity to bolster their lineup as they pursue continued success.
