BREAKING NEWS: Texans officially confirms the signing of top NFL star on a stunning deal

After being traded from the Buffalo Bills, Stefon Diggs will find a familiar face in Houston.

NFL reporter Aaron Wilson noted on July 8 that former Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes has re-signed with the Houston Texans. Hughes spent the last two seasons in Houston after a nine-season tenure with the Bills, where he became one of the team’s longest-serving members and a key part of their defense, helping end a 17-year playoff drought and making the Bills a perennial Super Bowl contender.

Returning to his hometown team for his 15th NFL season, Hughes had a significant impact in Houston in his first year there, tallying 9.0 sacks and 35 total tackles in 2022. Despite appearing in just two games in 2023, Hughes’ comeback to Houston could bolster an already strong defensive line, potentially making it the Texans’ top position group heading into training camp, as noted by Coty M. Davis of SI.com.

Hughes’ return means he will reunite with Diggs, his teammate in Buffalo for two seasons. Diggs was traded to Houston earlier in the offseason, a decision Bills general manager Brandon Beane described as tough but necessary to address salary cap constraints.

“In this role, you sometimes have to make difficult decisions,” Beane remarked. “It wasn’t easy and it was made after extensive thought, discussions, and conversations at the highest levels of our organization. Ultimately, it was in the best interest of the Bills.”
