REAKING NEWS: Yankees Trade Proposal Sends 22-Year-Old Utilityman to NY in 3-Player Deal

The New York Yankees have experienced a downturn after a strong start to the season. Initially boasting a 49-21 record on June 12, the best in baseball at the time, they have since struggled with a 7-18 record. As the July 30 trade deadline approaches, the Yankees may seek infield upgrades. A proposed trade from Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller suggests acquiring utilityman Luis Rengifo from the Los Angeles Angels.

In Miller’s suggested deal, the Yankees would receive infielder Luis Rengifo in exchange for right-handed pitchers Jack Neely and Will Warren. Warren, ranked as the organization’s No. 7 prospect, has had a challenging season with a 6.64 ERA over 80 innings in Triple-A. Neely, ranked No. 24, is noted for his potential as a closer, showcasing an impressive 14.4 strikeouts per nine innings in his minor league career.

Miller commented, “It could be a significant long-term gain for the Angels, although the Yankees would be paying a relatively modest price to acquire another hitter who can consistently reach base.”

Rengifo Would Give the Yankees’ Offense a Boost

Luis Rengifo has emerged as a promising option for the Yankees due to his versatility and cost-effectiveness compared to Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who holds a pricier contract. Rengifo, like Kiner-Falefa, offers defensive flexibility, having played at third base, second base, and shortstop for the Angels this season. He has also impressed at the plate, boasting a .315 batting average over 69 games.

LA Angels trade candidate: Luis Renfifo: Keep or move?

Despite his strong performance, Rengifo recently landed on the injured list due to a wrist injury sustained during a swing on July 3. An MRI revealed inflammation, prompting the Angels to place him on the 10-day injured list starting from July 5. The duration of his absence remains uncertain, but there’s optimism as he has been diagnosed with only inflammation and is progressing positively. Rengifo himself has expressed relief that the injury is not more severe and is already feeling improvement while wearing a hand brace.

If acquired by the Yankees, Rengifo’s versatility and offensive production could provide significant value once he returns to full health.
