The 21-year-old had a successful season at the MKM Stadium last year, scoring eight goals in 31 league games to help Hull City come close to the Championship play-offs.
Although not consistently prolific during spells at Hull, Preston North End, and Stoke City, he has demonstrated potential worthy of a chance in the Premier League. Ipswich reportedly paid £15m for his services, with an additional £5m possible in add-ons.
Speaking to Town TV, Delap expressed his excitement: “I’m really thrilled. I’ve heard great things about the atmosphere at the club and how dedicated the players and staff are. That’s exactly why I’m eager to join.”
“The manager here enjoys playing exciting football that’s fast-paced and intense, and I’m looking forward to that. I aim to contribute with goals and assists and will give my all to help the team.”
Delap had been linked with Southampton, but Ipswich have successfully attracted another highly sought-after player to Portman Road. Among their new signings is defender Ben Johnson, who was reportedly sought after by several clubs.
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna commented, “We’re delighted to welcome Liam to the club. We believe he has the qualities to make an impact this season and become a key player for us in the future.”
“He possesses exceptional physical and technical abilities and is eager to come here to continue developing and improving. He’s gained valuable first-team experience from a young age, and we see great potential for his growth here.”
