The striker, who returned to action in January following an eight-month suspension for breaking the FA’s betting regulations, is eager to join Old Trafford, with his agent notifying Brentford.
Toney’s departure seems probable this summer after Brentford manager Thomas Frank suggested it would be exciting to see him play for a top team.
Speaking in February, Frank acknowledged the financial implications of selling their star player, but also recognized that Toney will have just a year left on his contract by summer’s end.
“We know his true value,” Frank remarked. “There are few strikers better than him globally right now. Personally, as a coach, I’d prefer to retain Toney, but there’s an allure in seeing him at a top club someday.”
“While no offers came in for him this winter, I anticipate considerable interest in him,” Frank added.
Toney has openly expressed his aspiration to compete for an elite club, reiterating his ambitions earlier this year in an interview with Mail Sport.
“It’s widely known that I aim to play for a top team and compete at the highest level,” Toney stated. “I’m currently with Brentford, and until that changes—whether it’s this transfer window, the end of the season, or whenever—my focus remains here.”
Toney will aim to secure his first major trophy when England faces Spain in Sunday’s Euro 2024 final.
