Warriors’ governor shocking decision on their young star Steph Curry

With Stephen Curry turning 37 next March, the Warriors are under immense pressure to maximize the remaining years of his prime.

However, the current Warriors roster is far from being a championship contender, as reflected in their title odds. They need a blockbuster trade or two to elevate their status.

The fastest way for Golden State to upgrade their roster would be to trade some of their young assets—Brandin Podziemski, Jonathan Kuminga, or Moses Moody—for veteran star power. Fans and analysts believe it’s crucial for the Warriors to provide Curry with the necessary support to vie for his fifth NBA title. However, franchise governor Joe Lacob does not view this as an urgent matter.

In an interview on the “Hoops Adjacent” podcast, Lacob emphasized that the Warriors won’t make rash trades just to assemble a championship-level roster for Curry. He also mentioned the team’s decision to avoid overpaying for Klay Thompson and their objective to stay under the repeater luxury-tax threshold, a goal they achieved in the 2024 offseason. Lacob stated that he wasn’t willing to “bankrupt the entire team’s future” merely to secure additional help for Curry.

After failing to acquire Paul George, the Warriors have been strongly linked to Jazz All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen. Acquiring Markkanen would likely require trading Kuminga or Podziemski along with significant draft capital. A decision on this trade could be made soon.
