Kevin Pillar, a former player for both the Braves and Mets, is currently a sought-after trade asset drawing interest from multiple teams. Even the Braves themselves could benefit from adding him to their roster. In what is expected to be his final MLB season, Pillar, now with the Los Angeles Angels, will likely see his name prominently mentioned as contenders vie for his services.
For the Mets, Pillar is particularly appealing as a right-handed hitter known for his prowess against left-handed pitchers. His overall performance this season with the Angels has been solid, boasting a .290/.340/.476 batting line with 6 home runs in 156 plate appearances. His earlier stint with the Chicago White Sox, where he struggled with a .160/.290/.360 line, is less indicative of his current form, especially when compared to his impressive .368/.411/.618 slash line against left-handed pitchers in 73 at-bats.
The Mets’ outfield situation is complex due to their current starters, who have reverse splits. Jeff McNeil posts a .250/.290/.352 line against lefties, while Tyrone Taylor manages only .188/.222/.290. Their performances against right-handed pitchers are similarly mixed, with Taylor batting .250/.300/.450 and McNeil at .208/.274/.329. Given these statistics, McNeil is more likely to improve against righties in the near future.
