The Atlanta Braves, facing recent challenges due to injuries to key players like Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ozzie Albies, acquired Whit Merrifield on Monday to bolster their lineup. However, Merrifield suffered an injury during his initial hours with the team, as Braves manager Brian Snitker informed reporters that Merrifield injured a finger on his right hand while fielding ground balls on Monday.
Although X-rays showed no serious damage, Merrifield is now considered day-to-day.
You might not believe it, but it’s true: Whit Merrifield took a ball off a finger of his throwing hand while taking grounders an hour ago, is being evaluated now to make sure there’s no damage.
As Snitker said, managing to smile, “Can’t make it up….This year is something else.”

Merrifield, released by the Phillies on July 12 following a disappointing first half of the season, has struggled with a .199 batting average and a .572 OPS in 2023. Despite this, the Braves are optimistic that Merrifield can improve and contribute effectively during the 2024 season.
