Detroit Pistons Reportedly part ways with current key star

Chimezie Metu played last season with both the Detroit Pistons and the Phoenix Suns. Over 51 games, he averaged 6.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, shooting 50.4% from the field and 29.8% from beyond the arc.

This summer, Metu became a free agent and was available to sign with any NBA team. However, Evan Sidery reported that Metu is moving to Spain, having signed with FC Barcelona. According to Sidery: “Chimezie Metu has signed an overseas contract with FC Barcelona. Metu played for the Suns and Pistons this past season, averaging 6.5 points per game.”

Drafted 49th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, Metu has also played for the Sacramento Kings and San Antonio Spurs across his six NBA seasons. His career averages stand at 5.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, with shooting percentages of 49.5% from the field and 29.8% from three-point range in 260 regular-season games. He has also appeared in three NBA playoff games with the Kings in 2023.

At 27, Metu may have the chance to return to the NBA later in his career. According to BasketNews: “6-year NBA veteran Chimezie Metu has agreed to join EuroLeague team FC Barcelona for the upcoming season.”

As for the Pistons, they ended the 2023-24 season as the 15th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 14-68 record and have not reached the playoffs since 2019, when Blake Griffin was still on the team.
