James Johnson is concluding his second season with the Indiana Pacers, having participated in nine regular-season games and one playoff game.
This summer, Johnson became a free agent, eligible to sign with any NBA team. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, he will be rejoining the Pacers.
Wojnarowski reports: “Free agent forward James Johnson is returning to the Indiana Pacers on a one-year, $3.3 million contract, as confirmed by Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports. At 37, Johnson continues to be a valuable asset for a young team.”
Although Johnson is no longer in his prime at 37, he remains a dependable veteran for a team aiming to contend for a championship.

Selected 16th overall in the 2009 NBA Draft from Wake Forest, Johnson has also played for the Toronto Raptors, Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Memphis Grizzlies, Brooklyn Nets, Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves, and New Orleans Pelicans during his 15-year career.
His career averages stand at 7.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 47.4% from the field and 30.0% from three-point range across 774 regular-season games.
Additionally, Johnson has appeared in 25 NBA playoff games (including five starts) with the Raptors, Heat, Pacers, Grizzlies, and Bulls.
The Pacers, who finished the previous season as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 47-35 record, advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2014.
