South Florida Bulls infielder signs with Florida Gators

The Florida Gators secured their seventh transfer portal commitment this offseason with the signing of Bobby Boser, an infielder from USF, on Wednesday afternoon. Boser, ranked 57th overall in the transfer portal and the 5th best uncommitted player by 64 Analytics, brings impressive stats to the team. Despite missing games due to a hand injury last season, he posted a .299/.351/.667 slash line with 12 home runs and 32 RBI in 34 games, earning him a spot on the 2024 All-AAC First Team.

Boser’s breakout sophomore campaign saw him achieve career highs across multiple categories, including a .323 batting average, .445 on-base percentage, 15 home runs, 41 RBI, and 8 stolen bases in 55 games. His 15 homers tied for ninth in program single-season history, and he was recognized with honors such as the 2023 All-AAC First Team and selection to the 2023 Cape Cod League All-Star team.

Throughout his collegiate career, Boser has showcased versatility, playing every position except catcher and pitcher. In 2024, he primarily started at second base, with additional starts at shortstop and third base. The Gators are likely to utilize him in the infield due to their outfield depth, though there’s a potential opportunity at third base, a position where Boser has limited experience with only four career starts.

Defensively, Boser boasts a .981 career fielding percentage, notably making just one error during his standout 2023 season.

While Boser has shown power at the plate, his strikeout rate is a noted concern, with a career 35.5% strikeout percentage. However, he demonstrated improvement in 2024 with a reduced strikeout rate compared to his first two seasons.

Currently competing in the Cape Cod League, Boser is hitting .319 with six doubles and two home runs in 21 games for Wareham. His addition bolsters Florida’s offense for the upcoming season, joining returning players like Cade Kurland, Luke Heyman, Brody Donay, Colby Shelton, and Ty Evans from the 2024 College World Series team.
