The striker has signed a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old had joined the Terriers on a four-year contract in 2022, but his opportunities were limited, with just 10 appearances and no goals to his name.
He spent the entire previous season on loan at Northampton Town, where he played alongside new Boro recruit Louis Appere. During that spell, he made 40 appearances and scored three goals.
Before that, he was on loan at Swindon Town for the 2021-2022 season, netting 11 goals across 30 games.
Stevenage manager Alex Revell commented: “Tyreece is tall, fast, and strong. He has experience in both the Championship and League One and is still just 22. We worked hard to secure his permanent transfer and are excited to see him in action.”
Huddersfield Town sporting director Mark Cartwright added: “This move benefits everyone involved and gives Tyreece the chance to secure the first-team minutes he needs. Given his limited chances with us and his profile, we wish him the best for the future.”
Simpson could have pursued a career in another sport; he was offered a professional contract by top rugby union club Leicester Tigers as he neared his 17th birthday. In an interview with the East Anglian Daily Times, he shared, “Leicester Tigers offered me a contract, something they hadn’t done for someone so young in 15 years. But my heart was always in football, so I chose that path.”
This signing follows the recent departure of defender Terence Vancooten for what has been rumored to be a significant fee, possibly as high as £500,000. Chairman Phil Wallace mentioned that the club is exploring several options to replace Vancooten and expects a new signing before the season starts on August 10.
