The San Diego Padres have a deep pitching staff, but injuries have affected their performance, leading them to use Adam Mazur, who has struggled with a 7.49 ERA in eight starts—an unsustainable situation for a playoff-contending team.
According to The Athletic, the Padres are among several teams interested in trading for Chicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon. Taillon is signed for multiple seasons and won’t be a free agent until 2027, which may deter smaller-market teams from pursuing him.
However, this could work to the Padres’ advantage if other teams shy away from his contract. Taillon has had an outstanding season, with a 7-5 record, a 2.96 ERA, 78 strikeouts, and a 1.146 WHIP. While he may not be an ace, replacing Mazur with Taillon could significantly strengthen San Diego’s rotation as they push for the playoffs. The Padres now need to craft a compelling trade offer to persuade the Cubs.
