Last year was challenging for Michigan State football for many reasons, with the most glaring being the absence of a head coach. It also appears that the team faced some cultural problems behind the scenes. MSU safety Dillon Tatum shed light on these issues during the Big Ten Media Days this week with some revealing comments.
When comparing the 2024 roster under Jonathan Smith to the 2023 team, Tatum said, “I think we like each other a lot more.”
He further explained, “It was really tough last year with a lot of new faces. There were some players who seemed more interested in chasing financial gain, but I don’t see that this year. We have a lot of good people now.”
The changes in the transfer portal this year suggest that many of those financially motivated players have moved on. Additionally, it’s known that Jonathan Smith has little tolerance for players who try to manipulate NIL negotiations, which aligns with Tatum’s observations.
Had a chance to talk with Michigan State's Dillon Tatum at Big Ten Football Media Days on Wednesday and it's clear he's ready for a new era of Spartan Football to begin under Jonathan Smith.
