The Mets are trading right-handed reliever Paul Gervase to the Rays in exchange for right-handed relief pitcher Tyler Zuber, according to Anthony DiComo.
This season, Zuber has pitched just 3.1 innings in the majors with the Rays, bringing his career total to 52.2 innings. He holds a 5.13 ERA and a 5.99 FIP, with a 24.9% strikeout rate and a concerning 16.5% walk rate. Additionally, he has allowed 1.88 home runs per nine innings in his big league career.
However, Zuber has performed significantly better in Triple-A this year, posting a 2.49 ERA and a 3.60 FIP in 21.1 innings, with improved walk and home run rates compared to his major league numbers.
In return, the Rays are getting Gervase, a 24-year-old who has spent the 2024 season with Double-A Binghamton. Gervase has a 3.25 ERA and a 3.43 FIP over 27.2 innings, with an impressive 38.0% strikeout rate and a 14.0% walk rate.
