Portland Trail Blazers Ink 6-Year Veteran to Eye-Catching $47 Million Contract

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski has reported that the Portland Trail Blazers are signing Devonte’ Graham to a one-year contract. Over the past two seasons, Graham has played in 46 games with the San Antonio Spurs, averaging 8.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.

According to Sean Highkin of The Rose Garden Report, Graham will vie for a spot on the Blazers’ roster during their training camp ahead of the 2024-25 season. Currently, the team has 15 roster spots filled.

Graham was drafted 34th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks but was traded to the Charlotte Hornets. Although his rookie season was limited, he had a breakout second season, averaging 18.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game, with a 37.3% shooting rate from three-point range.

He subsequently signed a four-year, $47 million contract with the New Orleans Pelicans but was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in 2023. Graham became a free agent this summer after being traded to the Charlotte Hornets, who waived him. His $12.65 million contract was partially guaranteed for $2.85 million before his release.

Portland Trail Blazers’ current guard depth

With their latest acquisition, the Portland Trail Blazers now have five guards in their rotation: Scoot Henderson, Anfernee Simons, Dalano Banton, Shaedon Sharpe, and Devonte’ Graham.

The team is reportedly looking to trade Anfernee Simons (along with Jerami Grant) before the new season begins, but so far, no team has been willing to meet Portland’s demand of two first-round picks.

Currently in rebuild mode after trading Damian Lillard last summer, the Trail Blazers are focusing on developing their young talents, Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe, as the core of their future.
