The 49ers have taken two significant steps with their offensive line.
On Friday, San Francisco revealed that they have signed Pat Elflein to a one-year deal. Elflein, who is 30 years old, last played in 2022, starting six games for the Panthers. He joined the Cardinals in July 2023, but was placed on injured reserve by late August.
Drafted by Minnesota in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Elflein has accumulated 65 career starts with the Vikings, Jets, and Panthers.
In order to accommodate Elflein, the 49ers have released offensive lineman Briason Mays from the roster.
The San Francisco 49ers have made a significant move by signing veteran offensive lineman Pat Elflein to a long-term contract. Elflein, who last played for the Carolina Panthers in 2022 and was briefly with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 before injury, brings a wealth of experience with 65 career starts. Drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2017, his addition aims to strengthen the 49ers’ offensive line. To accommodate Elflein, the team has waived Briason Mays. This strategic signing underscores the 49ers’ commitment to bolstering their offensive front.
