In the first game of their three-game series on Tuesday night, the Colorado Rockies secured their 42nd win of the season with a 6-3 victory over the New York Mets. This win was a welcome change after the Rockies had lost their previous two games against the San Diego Padres. Unfortunately, Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland had to leave the game in the top of the fifth inning due to what appeared to be a finger injury. This isn’t the first time Freeland has faced injury issues this season; on April 15th, he was used as a pinch runner, which led to a shoulder injury and his placement on the 60-Day IL. Despite these setbacks, the Rockies managed to go on a notable win streak at the end of May.
It was confirmed that Kyle Freeland’s exit from the game was due to a blister on his left index finger. The injury is not expected to keep him out for an extended period, and there’s hope he will be back in time for his next scheduled start. Freeland has been exceptional since his return from injury in late June, significantly improving after a rough start to the season. Despite this recent setback, the Rockies are optimistic that he will maintain his strong performance. The team is eager to prove that this season isn’t a total disappointment and is aiming to surpass their 2023 franchise low of 59 wins. Freeland could be a key player in achieving this goal.
Freeland has made 12 starts this season, with a record of 3-4 and a 5.65 ERA over 63 2/3 innings. He has allowed 44 runs on 78 hits and struck out 55 batters. Notably, he posted a 3-1 record in July, and on July 31st, he had his best performance of the season in a 2-1 victory against the Los Angeles Angels. In that game, Freeland pitched seven innings, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out six. After a tumultuous start and over two months on the injured list, Freeland has made significant progress, and the Rockies would be delighted to see him continue delivering quality starts.
