Oregon senior defensive back Jabbar Muhammad is embarking on his inaugural and final season with the Oregon Ducks Football team after transferring from another program this offseason. Following the Ducks’ eighth fall camp practice, Muhammad shared his thoughts with the media, discussing his performance, the defensive backs’ group, and the differences between the Ducks’ program and his previous schools.
Last season, Muhammad played at Washington, where he earned a spot on the Pac-12 Coaches Second Team and was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week in late November. He played all 15 games for the Huskies, recording 46 total tackles, three interceptions, 5.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, and 19 passes defended.
Fall camp for the Ducks began on July 31st, with their first scrimmage scheduled for August 10th. The Oregon offense in 2023 was among the most dynamic in college football, averaging 531.4 yards and 44.2 points per game. However, the team must now replace key players like quarterback Bo Nix, record-setting receiver Troy Franklin, and standout center Jackson Powers-Johnson, all of whom have moved on to the NFL. Despite these losses, the Ducks’ strong returning roster and an impressive recruiting class have set them up well for the 2024 season.
As Oregon enters its first season in the prestigious Big Ten Conference, DuckTerritory.com will provide comprehensive coverage. The 2024 season also marks the third year under head coach Dan Lanning, who has guided the team to 22 wins over his first two seasons, including victories in the Holiday Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl. The Ducks are widely expected to be a major contender for the college football playoffs and a strong national title candidate.
Oregon’s roster for the upcoming season features key returnees from last year’s 12-win team, including standout wide receiver Tez Johnson, top tight end Terrance Ferguson, and elite offensive tackles Josh Conerly Jr. and Ajani Cornelius. The defense will be anchored by Jordan Burch at edge rusher and Jeffery Bassa at linebacker. Transfer quarterback Dillon Gabriel, along with a top-tier recruiting class, is expected to address the gaps left by last year’s departures.
