Coen Carr: Defying Limits and Achieving the Impossible

Is Coen Carr the most athletic player you’ve ever seen? It’s hard to imagine anyone topping him.

Michigan State basketball has had its share of incredibly athletic players, especially under Tom Izzo, but none come close to matching the sheer athleticism Carr consistently showcases. While he may not be the most well-rounded player in the program’s history—though he did display an improved jump shot during Moneyball this summer—Carr’s presence on the court is always electrifying. There’s always the chance he’ll pull off something spectacular and unprecedented.

Recently, Michigan State shared a video of the team testing their vertical jumps during practice, and as expected, Carr was at the top. What’s impressive is just how high he leapt. The bar in the video is adjustable up to 12 feet, and Carr nearly touches the top at the 11-second mark.

John Kirby captured a screenshot that highlights just how high Carr gets off the ground.

As someone who has never even touched the rim (standing at 5-foot-11, I’m envious), I can’t help but imagine how incredible it would be to jump that high. Even though I never made it past high school sports, I fantasize about how much cooler life would be with that kind of vertical leap.

Carr’s life is already pretty amazing. Playing basketball for one of the most storied programs in the country and having the ability to thrill fans with gravity-defying dunks is an enviable existence. We saw him deliver some incredible highlights as a freshman, and it’s exciting to think about the many more we’ll witness as he continues to play.

Someone better call SportsCenter because they’ll definitely want to keep an eye on Carr this season.
