“I have some incomplete details on a potential situation that could be quite explosive if it comes to fruition,” Le Batard said. “I want to set you up for something speculative at this point but worth monitoring. Glen Taylor, the owner of the Timberwolves, isn’t widely regarded as a good owner. He sold the team to Alex Rodriguez, and there’s an upcoming arbitration that will determine who ultimately owns the team—whether it will be Glen Taylor or A-Rod.”
“And here’s what to watch for: If Glen Taylor retains ownership of the team, it could lead to the departure of their team president, Tim Connelly. Connelly signed a long-term deal with the A-Rod group, which I believe is contingent on A-Rod becoming the owner.
“Everyone expected A-Rod to take over as owner, and if Connelly leaves, the next development might be Anthony Edwards wanting to follow him and potentially requesting a trade to Miami.”
The Minnesota Timberwolves signed Edwards to a five-year, $244 million extension in July 2023. As one of the top players in the NBA, Edwards is set to earn $42.2 million next season.
A two-time All-Star, Edwards averaged 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in the 2023-24 season, with shooting percentages of 46.1% from the field, 35.7% from three-point range, and 83.6% from the free-throw line.
Edwards was the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and has career averages of 22.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists.
The Heat were eliminated by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2024 playoffs, while the Timberwolves lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals.
