The Minnesota Vikings might be in the market for an experienced defensive back, as free agent cornerback Stephon Gilmore is scheduled to visit the team on Monday, according to NFL reporter Josina Anderson.
Gilmore, who will be 34 in September, played for the Dallas Cowboys last season but remains unsigned this offseason. His previous teams include the Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers, and Indianapolis Colts. A five-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, Gilmore earned the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2019 after leading the NFL with six interceptions (two of which he returned for touchdowns) and 20 passes defended.
During his tenure with the Patriots, Gilmore worked alongside Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who served as New England’s linebackers coach and later its de facto defensive coordinator. They also won a Super Bowl together in Flores’ final season with the Patriots. With the Vikings seeking to bolster their secondary, it makes sense they would consider bringing in someone familiar with Flores’ system.
This week, Minnesota also adjusted their secondary by trading former 2022 second-round pick Andrew Booth Jr. to Dallas for Nahshon Wright, a third-round pick by the Cowboys in 2021.
