The Portland Trail Blazers are likely exploring trade options for some of their veteran players, including center Robert Williams III.
Williams, who joined the Blazers just before training camp in a trade that sent Jrue Holiday to the Boston Celtics, played only six games this season after dislocating his patellar tendon and undergoing surgery, which sidelined him for the remainder of the year.
Now, according to The Athletic’s John Hollinger, Williams might be heading back to the East Coast to join the New York Knicks.
Hollinger suggests that Williams could be a good fit for the Knicks, who are keen to see if he can stay healthy for an extended period. A fully healthy Williams would be a valuable addition to the Knicks’ lineup, especially after losing Isaiah Hartenstein in free agency. While Mitchell Robinson remains on the roster, he has had his own injury issues, and there are no other proven big men on the team.
Williams, who started for the Celtics during their NBA Finals run two years ago, could be a target for the Knicks. However, they need to ensure that he can regain his form or come close to it for the upcoming season and beyond.
