Florida defensive lineman Jamari Lyons will miss the entire 2024 season due to a broken ankle, as announced by Gators coach Billy Napier on Monday. Lyons sustained the injury during the Gators’ first fall camp scrimmage and was seen being carted off the field with his leg in an air cast, according to 247Sports.
“Jamari is one of our top players and deeply committed. His injury had a significant impact on the team. I’ve never seen anything like it in my coaching career—every player, all 132 of them, gathered to support him as he was taken off the field,” Napier said. “This shows the strong connection within the team, indicating that we’re doing something right.” Lyons, a redshirt sophomore, played in all 12 games last season, starting once and recording 20 tackles (10 solo) and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Standing 6-foot-4, Lyons was a four-star recruit from Melbourne, Fla., in the Class of 2022. The Gators are set to open their season at home against No. 19 Miami on August 31.
