While there has been considerable speculation about the New York Knicks trading Julius Randle this summer, an NBA salary cap expert recently proposed a way to re-sign the three-time All-Star with a mutually beneficial deal.
Not long ago, Julius Randle was the clear star of the Knicks. However, in the past two seasons, Jalen Brunson has taken over that role and become one of New York’s most popular athletes, especially after signing a team-friendly extension in July.
This shift has led to speculation that Randle could be considered expendable, particularly as he enters the final year of his current contract. Trade rumors have circulated around the 29-year-old, but reports from the Knicks organization suggest that both the team’s front office and owner remain high on him and are reluctant to trade their top forward.
NBA salary cap expert Marks suggested that if Knicks president Leon Rose were to approach Randle’s agent, Aaron Mintz, with an offer to decline his current player option and sign a three-year, $100 million deal, it would be worth considering. “I think his number, where he is, is priced right at $30 million a year,” Marks said.
Currently, the Knicks are paying Randle $28.9 million next season, with a player option for $30.9 million in 2025-26. Marks’ suggestion would see Randle receive a modest increase to $33.3 million per season. This proposal would allow the Knicks to avoid a long-term commitment while keeping Randle during his prime at a reasonable rate.
Randle has expressed a strong desire to be part of the Knicks’ resurgence and a potential championship team. This sentiment might make a three-year, $100 million deal seem like a fair and attractive offer for both sides.
