Michigan State football is currently midway through their fall camp and is about two weeks away from their season opener against Florida Atlantic. As fall camp advances, one major concern for every team is injuries.
Injuries are always problematic in sports, but their impact is even greater when they occur outside of the regular season. Unfortunately for Michigan State, one of their key offensive players has reportedly suffered a minor injury. According to Stephen Brooks from Michigan State 247Sports, Jonathan Smith has indicated that wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. has sustained an injury. It seems the injury happened during the team’s first fall scrimmage this past Saturday.
Jonathan Smith said senior WR Montorie Foster is sidelined a few days with a minor injury. Also said there weren’t any long-term injury concerns coming out of Saturday’s scrimmage.

Smith did not specify the nature of Foster’s injury, but it appears to be minor. Brooks later reported that Smith mentioned no player sustained a long-term injury from the scrimmage.
Even though the injury seems to be minor, it’s still an unwelcome development. Injuries are a part of football, but losing Foster, who is the top receiver on the team and the only one with significant college-level success, would be a big blow for Michigan State. The team needs him to be available throughout the season.
As Smith noted, the injury doesn’t seem severe and ideally won’t prevent Foster from playing in the season opener against Florida Atlantic. Foster may need to take a brief break during fall camp for precautionary reasons, but it’s hoped he will recover quickly and be fully prepared for the season.
I have high expectations for Foster this season and believe he and Aidan Chiles could form a potent combination. Although this injury is something to keep an eye on, I’m not ready to lower my expectations just yet.
