In a summer filled with major sports stories, there’s been one question everyone keeps circling back to: Gardner Minshew or Aidan O’Connell? After months of anticipation, the most significant sporting event of the season—one that’s captured the NFL’s attention—is now underway in Las Vegas.

Both Minshew and O’Connell have shared starter’s reps during training camp. Following two weeks of inconsistent practice reports, both quarterbacks had the opportunity to make their case against the Vikings over the weekend. Minshew completed 6 of 12 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown, while O’Connell went 7 of 9 for 76 yards. It was a preseason game that signaled the return of football, though it still felt like the season hadn’t fully begun yet.

It turns out the Raiders aren’t rushing to make a decision based on just one quarter of football, but the wait won’t be much longer. Coach Antonio Pierce has given a clear timeline for when the team will announce its starting quarterback.

“We need to get ready for the season, and I believe we have enough film,” Pierce said. “By the time of our next two games, we’ll evaluate both quarterbacks to determine how they’ll perform.”

With the Raiders’ next game scheduled for Saturday, we’re approaching the crucial moment. By this time next Monday, we’ll know who the starting QB is, which is as thrilling as preseason gets. This Saturday’s matchup is against the Cowboys, giving us a chance to see the top contenders for the Raiders’ starting quarterback position. Anyone who thinks preseason football isn’t exciting clearly hasn’t been following a team with Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell.
