From Bad to Worse: Reports from Yankees’ camp indicate that Starman’s season is over due to a serious injury

The New York Yankees experienced a rough Monday—”rough” might even be an understatement.

The struggling Chicago White Sox scored a season-high 12 runs, leading to a series-opening defeat for the Yankees. This marked only the White Sox’s second win since July 10. In Boston, the Red Sox secured a walk-off victory against the Rangers.

To top it off, star trade deadline acquisition Jazz Chisholm Jr. suffered a left elbow injury while sliding into home in the fifth inning. The Yankees have confirmed the injury and Chisholm will undergo testing on Tuesday to assess its severity.

Everyone in the Bronx is hoping the injury is minor. If it turns out to be more serious, one of the few bright spots in an otherwise tumultuous season for the Yankees will be sidelined during a critical part of the campaign.

It’s unclear at this point what Tuesday’s scans will reveal. For now, Aaron Boone has informed the media that X-rays came back negative, which only indicates that Chisholm did not suffer a fracture.

The evening began promisingly for New York when Aaron Judge gave Yankees fans a reason to cheer with an RBI double in the first inning to kick off the scoring. Unfortunately, there was little else to celebrate on Monday night.

The White Sox scored two runs in both the first and fourth innings, taking a 4-1 lead. However, the mood seemed to lift slightly when Chisholm’s impressive baserunning in the fifth inning narrowed the gap to 4-2.

Things took a turn for the worse when Chisholm was forced to leave the game due to his injury. The White Sox capitalized by adding a run in the fifth inning and then opening up the game further.

The final score was 12-2. Starter Luis Gil allowed four earned runs, while Tim Hill gave up one more in relief. Enyel De Los Santos struggled, giving up six runs in the seventh inning and an additional run in the eighth.

The usual approach is to move past the loss and focus on a fresh start the next day. However, the injury to Chisholm may make it more challenging to recover from this setback.
