BREAKING: NY Yankees top star fielder added to Injured List due to serious UCL Injury

Jazz Chisholm Jr. is expected to be added to the injured list due to a left UCL injury, as reported by New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone. The Yankees are still assessing the injury’s severity and whether surgery might be required.

“We should have a clearer picture after the doctors have all reviewed it within the next 24 hours,” Boone said. “He’s disappointed because he was eager to play today. He woke up thinking, ‘I’m playing today.’ We’ll see what the results show and hope it’s not a long-term issue.”

Chisholm had an MRI on Tuesday after sustaining the injury to his left elbow during a slide into home plate in the Yankees’ 12-2 loss to the White Sox on Monday night at Guaranteed Rate Field.

During the incident, Chisholm scored from second base on Anthony Volpe’s infield single in the fifth inning. Replays showed Chisholm rotating his left arm and shoulder in the dugout between innings. Boone reported that X-rays taken at the stadium were negative.

Chisholm continued to play defense at third base but was replaced by pinch-hitter Ben Rice in the seventh inning when his turn at bat arrived. Initially, Chisholm was “not super concerned” about the injury.

“My adrenaline was still high, so I didn’t feel it right away,” Chisholm said. “After an inning, just sitting there, I started to feel it more.”

Since being acquired from the Miami Marlins on July 27 in exchange for three prospects, Chisholm has energized the Yankees, hitting seven home runs in his first 12 games with the team.

In his 14 games with New York, Chisholm has a .316 batting average (18-for-57), with one double, seven home runs, and 11 RBIs.

“He’s definitely been a big addition for us,” Boone said. “We hope this is just a short-term issue and that we can get him back soon. It’s tough not having him with the impact he’s made already. We’ll support him as best as we can and work to get him back on track.”

Chisholm remains with the team in Chicago and is expected to be placed on the injured list soon. This move might allow the Yankees to add a starting pitcher to the roster, as Wednesday’s starter is still to be determined.

In Chisholm’s absence, Boone noted that DJ LeMahieu and Oswaldo Cabrera will share time at third base.

“We’ll mix and match and see what works best,” Boone said.
