Michigan State football commit jumps in Rivals recruiting rankings

Recently, Rivals updated its top 250 player rankings, and while Michigan State has only one commit in this group, that player saw a notable improvement. Defensive back LaRue Zamorano, the highest-ranked commit for Michigan State’s 2025 class, saw his position rise on Tuesday. LaRue Zamorano, who committed to the Spartans at the end of July, was the first four-star recruit for Jonathan Smith in this class, and his ranking has improved even further.

In the new Rivals rankings, LaRue Zamorano moved up six spots to No. 238 nationally. Although this might seem like a small leap, it’s significant considering the frequent movement down the rankings. There were 145 players who fell in the latest update, not including those who dropped out of the top 250 entirely. So, a six-spot rise is quite commendable in this context.

Additionally, this update affected LaRue Zamorano position in the 247Sports composite rankings, which are widely respected as they aggregate rankings from all major recruiting sites. On this list, Zamorano climbed from No. 487 to No. 474.

It would be great to see LaRue Zamorano continue to rise and for more Spartans to break into the top 250, improving the overall class ranking. However, rankings are just one aspect, and what truly matters is that Jonathan Smith is recruiting the right players for the program, which I believe he is doing effectively.
