Warriors Acquire Trail Blazers’ Wing and Big Man in High-Risk Deal

The Golden State Warriors have sought to offset Klay Thompson’s departure by bringing in three versatile players—Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, and De’Anthony Melton—to boost their roster depth. Despite these additions, the Warriors still appear ill-equipped to compete in a crowded Western Conference, especially after missing the playoffs last season.

Although they were unable to acquire a star like Lauri Markkanen, the team must keep exploring options to add veteran experience and strengthen their chances of contention. The Trail Blazers, with their roster overloaded with veterans, are potentially sending two of these players to Golden State in this proposed mock trade.

Trade Details

Golden State Warriors Receive: Jerami Grant, Robert Williams III

Portland Trail Blazers Receive: Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II, Kevon LooneyMoses Moody, 2027 First-Round Pick (GSW), 2025 Second-Round Pick (GSW)

The Warriors significantly improve by acquiring two players who are capable of starting, all while safeguarding their future assets, except for Moses Moody. Wiggins, Payton, and Looney will become veteran assets for Portland and are likely to either be traded to other teams or serve as experienced leaders on a promising rebuilding project.

The Blazers have little reason to keep Grant, as his high-usage role could overshadow their younger players. His contract also makes him less appealing as a trade asset, so the Warriors acquiring him for picks and players should be a favorable outcome for Portland.

Likewise, drafting Donovan Clingan dims Williams’s future with the team, which could be addressed by trading him to a team lacking depth at center. A rotation of Williams, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and occasional minutes from Draymond would be solid, with Grant likely pairing with Jonathan Kuminga on the wing. In the backcourt, competition for the starting role will be fierce, but Brandin Podziemski, a high-energy, defense-focused swingman, is expected to win the spot, while Hield, Anderson, and Melton will form the core bench unit.

The Blazers benefit by shedding two large contracts and gaining various assets that could prove valuable. Considering Golden State’s inconsistent performance since their 2022 championship, Portland is likely optimistic about their 2027 first-round pick, which will come into play after Curry’s contract ends in 2026.
