The 2024 college football season is just two weeks away, and excitement is mounting with previews flooding in. ESPN has released its top-100 college football players for the upcoming season, and five Michigan Wolverines have made the list:
DT Mason Graham – No. 2
ESPN’s Take: At 320 pounds, Graham is set to anchor Michigan Wolverines’s defensive line after a strong sophomore year, including 7.5 tackles for loss. Despite the defense losing several key players to the NFL, Graham is expected to be a leading force and is recognized as the top interior defensive lineman by ESPN.
Will Johnson – No. 4
ESPN’s Take: Johnson, a consensus All-Big Ten selection, impressed with four interceptions last season, including a crucial pick in the national championship game. Opponents had a dismal QBR of 4.3 when targeting him. ESPN ranks him as the second-best cornerback nationally, just behind Travis Hunter of Colorado.
Colston Loveland – No. 26
ESPN’s Take: Loveland, a standout tight end, had an impressive 649 receiving yards last season, ranking fourth among Power 4 tight ends. With a high rate of first downs or touchdowns per catch, he’s positioned as ESPN’s top tight end for 2024 and is expected to be a primary pass-catching target for Michigan.
Donovan Edwards – No. 72
ESPN’s Take: After spending three years behind prominent backs, Edwards steps into the lead running back role. Coming off a notable 2022 season, he’s featured on the cover of the College Football 25 video game. With his explosive performances, Edwards has the potential for a standout senior year.
Kenneth Grant – No. 75
ESPN’s Take: Grant has emerged as a dominant defensive presence with 16 solo tackles and 3.5 sacks last season. Known for his physicality, he’s compared to former Georgia standout Jordan Davis and is anticipated to make a significant impact in his third season, potentially as a first-round draft pick.
