Latest Update: Kalen DeBoer Identifies His Biggest Concerns for His Team

DeBoer was asked about his primary concern for his team as the 2024 season approaches and emphasized the importance of avoiding injuries.

“Probably just staying healthy, you know?” DeBoer said. “I feel good about where we are. This scrimmage will be the most extensive, with the highest number of plays. We’ll have another scrimmage next week, but it won’t be as extensive. Staying healthy is crucial; we need all the reps we can get.”

According to DeBoer, Alabama ran 102 plays during Saturday’s practice, with 81 of those plays allocated to the first and second teams, divided almost equally between the two groups.

DeBoer noted the significance of staying healthy, especially given the team’s mix of experienced players and younger talent.

“We have some veterans, but we also have many young players who need to keep developing,” DeBoer said. “Even if they’re not starting, they’re in the two-deep rotation, so these reps are crucial for their growth and for building trust within the unit. Our youth across various positions makes this even more important.”

Alabama will return to the field on Sunday for its open Fan Day practice at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Tide’s season opener is set for August 31 against Western Kentucky in Tuscaloosa.

As he prepares for his first game as head coach following Nick Saban’s departure, DeBoer expressed satisfaction with the players’ commitment to maintaining their health.

“Guys are taking excellent care of their bodies,” DeBoer said. “Whenever they have extra time, they’re in the training room and doing what they need to before and after practice. They’re showing professionalism and embracing the championship habits we’re emphasizing.”
