Former Super Bowl champion Mack Hollins has not worn shoes off the field for quite a while. Recently, the Buffalo Bills’ new wide receiver revealed a change in this personal practice.
Hollins has adopted an unusual training method that distinguishes him from others—he trains barefoot. He believes that going shoeless enhances his flexibility and dexterity, which he considers crucial to his performance on the field.
The 29-year-old player’s shoeless approach began during a trip to Australia, where he encountered a group specializing in holistic grounding exercises. Inspired by their methods, Hollins has been training without shoes for the last five to six years, leaving many around him puzzled.
While his unconventional approach has attracted both intrigue and criticism regarding the cleanliness and safety of training barefoot, Hollins remains confident, contending that feet are actually cleaner than shoes, which are infrequently washed.

Recently, Mack Hollins appeared on an episode of *Green Light with Chris Long*, a show produced by Yote House Media, where he discussed various topics. In a video shared on the podcast’s official YouTube channel, Hollins elaborated on his decision to train barefoot.
Chris asked, “Why no shoes? Can you explain the science behind it?”
Mack responded, “This offseason, I approached things differently. During OTAs, I had a chef preparing healthy meals, focused on better nutrition, and took more care of myself than ever before during our break. I did some NAD treatments, IVs, and took a lot of vitamins. I traveled a lot—Jupiter, Cabo, LA, Tahoe, Nashville—while trying to be strict about my diet and what I was putting into my body. There’s also a little secret I might share: I’m throwing in a few Zyns… the Citrus flavor is pretty good.”
The Bills signed Hollins earlier this year during free agency. He’s expected to add a deep-threat option to Buffalo’s passing game and strengthen their receiving corps following Gabe Davis’ departure.
Hollins’ dedication to his unique training regimen has been a hallmark of his NFL career, which started in 2017 and includes a Super Bowl win with the Eagles. His commitment to barefoot training underscores his strong belief in its benefits.
