The New York Yankees were busy at the trade deadline, making three different moves in hopes of bolstering their chances for a deep postseason run.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Mark Leiter Jr. were the most prominent players New York acquired, but they also made a smaller trade with the San Diego Padres, bringing in another bullpen arm in Enyel De Los Santos. This move raised some eyebrows, as De Los Santos had a 4.46 ERA in 44 appearances for the Padres. However, if there’s one thing Brian Cashman excels at, it’s spotting undervalued relievers who often thrive under pitching coach Matt Blake’s guidance.
Unfortunately, De Los Santos didn’t turn out to be the Yankees’ latest success story. He was designated for assignment just a few weeks after joining the team. To make matters worse, he received the worst possible outcome when he was claimed off waivers by the 30-93 Chicago White Sox. Ouch.
