Former Phoenix Suns player and current color commentator took a swipe at Miami Heat fans on social media. The exchange began after the Suns’ official X (formerly Twitter) page posted about the NBA’s 2024-25 schedule, highlighting an empty arena photo in their post about Heat fans.
Miami’s official X account countered with a screenshot showing that the Heat had the fourth-highest average attendance per home game last season, compared to the Suns’ 25th. In response, Johnson suggested that Heat fans often arrive late while Suns fans are punctual.
Despite similar performance levels in the 2023-24 season—Phoenix securing the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference with 49 wins, and Miami ending as the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference with 46 wins—both teams had early exits from the playoffs. The Heat were eliminated by the Boston Celtics, who won their 18th title, while the Suns were swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Historically, the Heat have more accolades, including three championships (2006, 2012, and 2013), compared to the Suns’ lone NBA Finals appearance in 2021. Johnson’s remarks could fuel rivalry tensions between the two fan bases, making their upcoming matchups highly anticipated.
