BREAKING: St. Louis CITY SC and Schnucks Team Up to Fight Hunger In-Store Food Drive till Sunday

St. Louis CITY SC and Schnuck Markets, Inc., are partnering once more to address hunger in the St. Louis area. From Sunday, August 18 to Sunday, August 25, they are hosting the CITY x Schnucks Food Drive to support Operation Food Search (OFS), with collection points exclusively at Schnucks stores throughout the Metro region. Community members are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to their local Schnucks to aid OFS.

A special donation event will feature CITY SC players Chris Durkin, Hosei Kijima, and Jake Nerwinski on Wednesday, August 21, from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m. at Schnucks Des Peres (12332 Manchester Rd, St. Louis, MO 63131). Attendees can drop off donations, meet the players, and get autographs, with the meet-and-greet starting at 3:00 p.m. (Note: autographs are limited to the first 150 people in line).

Diego Gigliani, President & GM of St. Louis CITY SC, expressed pride in partnering with Schnucks again to combat regional food insecurity. He emphasized the importance of community support for Operation Food Search’s efforts.

Feeding America reports that 15% of Missouri residents experience food insecurity, with higher rates among children—30.9% in St. Louis City and 17.4% in St. Louis County. OFS estimates that 1 in 4 children in their service area face hunger risks.

Schron Jackson, Schnucks Director of Community Engagement and Customer Care, highlighted the collective effort needed to tackle food insecurity and praised the ongoing collaboration with Operation Food Search and CITY SC.

Kristen Wild, President & CEO of Operation Food Search, expressed gratitude for the support, noting the critical need for donations as food contributions have decreased.

The most-needed items for donation include:

– Canned chicken, light tuna, & salmon
– Canned soups, chili, and stews with meat or beans
– Canned fruit (in natural juices)
– Diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and canned spaghetti sauces (low sodium preferred)
– Canned beans (low sodium preferred)
– Instant brown rice and whole wheat pasta
– Boxed meal kits
– Canned vegetables
– Dried spices (chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, oregano, basil)
– Deodorant, toothbrushes, and toothpaste
– Pop-top canned items are especially appreciated
– No glass containers or ramen noodles

Schnucks, founded in St. Louis in 1939, operates 114 stores across Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, employing nearly 12,000 people. Ranked 189th on Forbes’ 2023 list of largest privately-owned U.S. companies, Schnucks donates over $15 million in food annually to support local pantries and fight hunger.
