Just In: Detroit Lions sign One-time Bears Rookie

The Detroit Lions are entering the 2024 NFL season with high expectations. They have their key players ready for the upcoming campaign, and even though they’ve lost some members, the team is actively working to strengthen its roster. Recently, the Lions signed linebacker Joel Iyiegbuniwe, who previously played for the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2.

Iyiegbuniwe began his NFL journey with the Bears in 2018 after being selected in the fourth round of that year’s draft. During his rookie season, he recorded nine total tackles, laying the groundwork for his career. Although his production dipped the following year, he bounced back in 2020, achieving a career-high of 12 tackles.

After spending another year in Chicago, Iyiegbuniwe joined the Panthers in 2022, where he appeared in seven games and made two tackles. Now, he has the chance to contribute to a Lions defense aiming to be among the league’s best in 2024.

Detroit’s defense is anchored by linebacker Alex Anzalone and cornerback Kerby Joseph. Anzalone led the team with 129 tackles in 2023, while Joseph topped the team in interceptions with seven, ranking fourth in the NFL. It will be intriguing to see how Detroit’s defense performs in the upcoming season.
