Longhorn officially announced signing of NCAAF top quarterback on long term deal

Maalik Murphy’s choice to transfer to Duke appears to be paying off.

Murphy made the announcement to leave Texas in December, just before the team’s College Football Playoff game. He opted to join Duke, and as of Monday, reports indicate that he has secured the starting quarterback position with the Blue Devils.

Murphy, a four-star recruit from Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, California, played for the Longhorns during the 2022 and 2023 seasons before making the transfer. With Quinn Ewers returning for the 2024 season and Arch Manning also on the roster, Murphy’s opportunities at Texas seemed limited, prompting his move.

Last season, as Ewers’ backup, Murphy threw for 477 yards, recording 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

Duke, coming off an 8-5 record under previous head coach Mike Elko, will have Manny Diaz as their new head coach for the 2024 season. The Blue Devils will kick off their season against Elon on August 30.
