The Chicago Sky have announced an upcoming theme night next week, paying tribute to their own “Bayou Barbie,” Angel Reese.
The rookie forward, who coined the nickname while playing at LSU, will face off against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever for the fourth time this season on August 30.
In addition to the game, the event is being promoted as “Barbie Night” in collaboration with Mattel.
The Sky encouraged fans on X to don their “best Barbie pink” for the occasion.
A press release from the team also mentioned that the night will include a pre-game panel discussion, fan giveaways, and special arena decorations.
Moreover, the first 2,000 fans to enter the arena will receive a custom sherpa belt bag or a Hawaiian shirt, both in the Barbie theme.
“Barbie aligns perfectly with the Sky’s mission to empower girls and women to explore limitless possibilities, and we’re excited to deliver inspiring content to our fans,” said Tania Haladner, the Chicago Sky’s Chief Marketing Officer.
Since joining the Sky, Reese has also adopted the nickname “Chi Barbie” as she acclimates to her new environment.
“People reaching out to me, the love from Chicago is deep and wild,” she said in a TikTok video. “So I’m the Chi Barbie, the Baltimore Barbie, and I’ll always be the Bayou Barbie.”
Angel Reese’s unexpected comment about Caitlin Clark has fans rethinking their ‘rivalry.’
It’s easy to forget that this isn’t the first time Reese has spoken highly of Clark, despite their intense encounters in both the NCAA and the WNBA. While at LSU last season, Reese told reporters that she “loves” former Iowa star Clark and would like to be her teammate someday.
That dream will become a reality for the first time on July 20, and likely for many All-Star games to come. Considering their current trajectories, it would take something significant for Clark and Reese not to be teammates at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, marking a new chapter for women’s basketball on the international stage.
Angel Reese have been talking about how much she loves Caitlin Clark & wanting to be teammates with her a long while now.
So it is no surprise that she is excited to play with her at all-star & maybe 2028 Olympics. Angel has always been a sweetheart. pic.twitter.com/VK8i5SUCyH
