The Oregon football team is poised to be one of the top teams in the nation for the 2024 season and is a strong contender to finish near the top of the Big Ten Conference. The Ducks have a wealth of talent and were ranked in the top five of the preseason AP poll.
They start the season with a home game against Idaho on August 31, where they are heavily favored. However, there was some concern when starting running back Jordan James missed practice on Wednesday.
Oregon coach Dan Lanning addressed the situation, reassuring fans with an update from James Crepea of The Oregonian. Lanning stated that James missed practice as a precaution due to some minor wear and tear from training camp. James was also limited in practice early on Tuesday. Additionally, Lanning noted that defensive lineman My’Keil Gardner will be sidelined for a while due to injury, which is a significant setback for the defensive line.
With Bucky Irving gone to the NFL, James is expected to take on a major role as the starting running back and key offensive contributor for the Ducks. Lanning’s assurance that James’ absence is precautionary is a positive sign for the team.
Last season, James had 107 carries for 759 yards and 11 touchdowns as a sophomore. With Dillon Gabriel at quarterback, James is anticipated to have a standout year in 2024, making any injury issues particularly worrisome.
